Amatsu is an holistic, hands-on physical therapy. Its Japanese origins date back thousands of years. Its western origins are underpinned with the biotensegrity principles of Dr. Stephen M. Levin MD and Amatsu has to date evolved into a relevant, modern therapy, through the extensive research of Dennis Bartram (England) and the clinical experience of its practitioners. It has originated from both tradition Japanese medicine, the martial skills of the Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu, and has been influenced by other Asian philosophies and Western Medical and Complementary approaches. It is a natural movement oriented therapy which means the practitioner works on the tissues to naturally enhance the body's ability to correct itself. It is a gentle non-invasive therapy that is suitable for people of any age, from the very young to the very old. ![]() It is not just a physical injury that can cause problems to the body. All too often life's stresses mean that our bodies have to adapt and cope with tensions and strains, leading to poor posture, sluggish digestive systems, aching shoulders and necks. Amatsu is a physical/touch therapy that can help to relieve these strains. Your body has many system which need to work in balance with each other to give a body health and vitality. These systems fit into five main categories/elements known in Amatsu as the Godai. ![]() Physical: Your bones, ligaments, tendons muscles Electrical: Your nervous system and energy Chemical: Your hormones, digestive system Mental: Your emotions, beliefs and values Environmental: where you work, how you live and your physical surroundings An imbalance in any one of these systems will have an affect on the others. An important concept in Amatsu is that the whole person needs treating, not just the surface symptoms, this involves paying attention to the Godai.
